Lyons, Francis J., retired Hull Fire Chief, died August 3, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Melanoma. Beloved husband of Catherine T. (Oliver) Lyons. Loving father of Elizabeth Wilcox & husband Colby and Catherine Blake & husband Robert, all of Weymouth. Devoted grandfather of Kaylee Blake and Alyssa Wilcox. Loving son of Frances Lyons of Hull and the late Joseph Lyons. Brother of Ann Marie Lyons, Joseph Lyons, both of Hull, Dr. Thomas Lyons of Hingham, William Lyons of RI, Robert Lyons of Walpole, and Mary Crossen, Hull. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A lifelong resident of Hull, Frank served in the United States Navy and in the Naval Reserve. After completing his service in the Navy, Frank worked as a summer patrolman for the Hull Police Department until becoming a dedicated member of the Hull Fire Department. During his distinguished career at Hull Fire, Frank diligently worked to improve himself and the department, advancing from firefighter/EMT to Captain, Deputy Chief, and ultimately Chief of the Hull Fire Department. Frank was known as a hard worker, humble, honest, fair, and committed not only to members of his department, but also to the Town of Hull. Frank was a member of the George H. Mealy American Legion Post 118, Cohasset. He was also a member of the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts, Plymouth County Association of Fire Chiefs, and National Association of Fire Chiefs. Frank adored spending time with his family. During his summers, Frank could be found on his boat with his wife Cathy. In addition, Frank loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and Disney World. Frank could be found running early in the morning along Nantasket Beach. In April, 2001 Frank completed the Boston Marathon. Frank also enjoyed working around his house and impeccably maintaining his cars and boats. His humerous and loyal personality will be immensely missed by all who love him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Thursday 3-8 PM in the in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9 AM prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull, at 10 AM. Burial in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset. Donations in Franks’s memory may be made to the Chief Francis J. Lyons Memorial Scholarship, Hingham Fedeal Credit Union, 10 Downer Ave., Hingham, MA 02043.
