Fausto ‘John’ Enrique Mora Peréz

October 7, 1961 – October 18th, 2020

John was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Gloria Peréz Cevallos and Fausto E. Mora-Aguirre.  He grew up in Guayaquil and then moved to the United States in 1970 and became a U.S. Citizen in 1977.

John always loved sports, and he played on baseball teams in Boston, MA and Marysville, WA and was a star player!  He also played on a football pee-wee team on Bainbridge Island. At Raymond High School, John was a running back (#31) for the high school football team. He lettered in football and was also on the track team.

In 1978, he joined the Air Force and served as an Airlift/Bombardment Aircraft Maintenance Specialist as a C-130H Crew Chief. He was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Washington. While in the Air Force he traveled to other countries, such as Spain, Portugal and Germany.

In 1986, he moved to Boston and worked as a Protection Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for 5 years. It was there that John met Marcia Tench. It was February 1988, and Marcia had just started working for the “Fed” as the bank was so affectionately called.  They worked opposite shifts, him getting ready to be relieved at midnight while she was just coming on (and often late) around 11:30 pm.  The two struck up conversations that slowly evolved into a friendship that took them from acquaintances to husband and wife in December 1991.  This was John’s first and only marriage, and Marcia’s second.  Not long after, John left the bank to pursue a career in construction. John was an incredibly hard worker, and he was very creative with his building expertise. He had an extraordinary talent for custom construction. John was able to take the required classes to secure a spot first in the Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, then switched to the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades DC35. The switch was frowned upon, but he pursued it in order to secure prime benefits for his stepdaughter, Davicia. This was one of many sacrifices that John would make on behalf of his new family.

John and Marcia did not have a perfect marriage, and spent many years apart due to disagreements, but they always found their way back to each other.  They would have celebrated 29 years of marriage next month. John, being so family-oriented, quickly became part of the Tench family. He always offered assistance and support to help care for Marcia’s parents, especially during the last months of his father-in-law’s life. John was a fixture at the rehab and hospital, making sure that “Dad” was well cared for. Any who knew John attest to the fact that of all the wonderful talents that he had, most of all he was a very good-hearted person. He loved all of his family very much, and always treated elders with kindness and respect. John was a natural helper, so he was willing to help and lend a hand to anyone that asked. He also had quite a sense of humor; he could start a conversation with anyone and could have them laughing out loud within minutes! This quality also endeared him to his family.

While living in the Pacific Northwest, John always enjoyed crabbing, fishing and spending time outdoors with his family. He also loved to cook, and he was a very good chef! In addition to cooking, John loved to try new restaurants that came highly recommended by The Phantom Gourmet, as well as watching auto restoration programs, or just staying in and watching movies.

John and Marcia spent the past season enjoying their love of the autumn season, and their love of FOOD!  One of their recent and memorable outings was taking their grandson Elijah to the Southwick Zoo. The family’s last memory of John was at their monthly family Zoom meeting. He and Marcia were chatting with the cousins, laughing and enjoying themselves, and making plans for the next session. He truly was a part of the family and will be dearly missed.

John is predeceased by his Father, Fausto Enrique Mora-Aguirre. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Marcia Tench-Mora of Dorchester, MA; his stepdaughter, Davicia Neves and husband, Jonathan along with step-grandsons Elijah & Josiah of Holbrook, MA; his mother, Gloria Davis and stepfather Richard Davis of Seabeck, WA; his sister, Marie Davis and Tony Welch of Seattle, WA and a host of other cherished relatives and friends.

Interment scheduled at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to; The Greater Boston Food Bank, 70 South Bay Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
