On Saturday, January 11, 2025, Evelyne Lo of Newton passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a valiant battle against cancer. She was 49.
She was born in Hong Kong to Lan Fun Lo-Leung and Winston Kwok-Chu Lo and raised in Hong Kong. When she was 14, she moved to the United States and attended Parkway West High School in St. Louis, MO. She went on to earn her BSN at St. Louis University. After her undergraduate studies, Evelyne received her Masters in Nursing from Yale, where she also met Neal Chen, her future husband. Continuing her love of education, she earned her JD at New England Law.
Evelyne and Neal had their son Emmett in Ann Arbor, MI, moved to Philadelphia, PA and eventually settled in Newton, MA. She worked as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, caring for many patients over 20 years. She served the MIT Medical community for over a decade.
Known for her intelligence, generosity, humor and remarkable resilience, Evelyne was not just a caregiver in her professional life, but also in her personal life. She adored and doted on her son Emmett, who was her life’s inspiration. She was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, offering unwavering support to those closest to her. Her strength, both physical and emotional, was unmatched—whether facing the toll of severe illness or guiding others through their afflictions, Evelyne did so with bravery, grace and unyielding resolve. Evelyne will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of 20 years to Neal C. Chen of Newton. Devoted mother to Emmett Chen of Newton. Cherished daughter of Lan Fun Lo-Leung and Winston Kwok-Chu Lo, both of Newton. Loving sister to Wyman Lo and his wife Alison Chen of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her nephews, Matthew and Nathan Lo.
