Ethel was raised in Hingham and graduated from Hingham High School in 1932. During high school she played both basketball and track. Ethel’s father was a founding member of the Rotary Club in Hingham and after graduation Ethel worked for the Hingham Water Company. She spent over 50 years there and always enjoyed telling all the stories of the many developments and transitions that the Town of Hingham went through since the 1930’s. During the war time she volunteered for the American Red Cross. Ethel also worked for Filenes on a part-time basis for 20 years. At age 42, she moved to Weymouth for 50 years. Last year she came back to Hingham to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Ethel loved working in her flower gardens, reading, going to the beach, and cooking. Most of all she was devoted to her family and was especially proud of her grandson.
