Esther M. Lutz

Lutz, Esther Marie (McElroy) passed away at home surrounded by her family on October 22, 2009. She was 80 years old. Beloved wife of Paul A. Lutz of Hingham. Loving mother of Therese Lutz of Elkridge, MD, Michele Meade and her husband Stephen Meade of Hingham, Paula Lutz and her fiancé Dick Kuehl of Weston, and Cecilia Lutz and her husband Steven Ward of Reston, VA. Cherished grandmother of Christina, Cullen and Mackenzie Meade, Erin and Duncan Reid, Kerry Ward and Marina and Ted Anastopoulos. Sister of Sr. Theresa McElroy of Silver Spring, MD , Raymond McElroy of Warwick, RI and the late Katherine, James and Joseph. Esther was born in Washington, D.C. to Raymond and Louise McElroy, and spent her childhood in Providence, RI. From her parents she developed a keen interest in politics and history, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Annhurst College, CT and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Connecticut. While teaching in Groton Connecticut she met the love of her life – her husband of 55 years Capt. Paul A. Lutz (USCG Retired). After moving to Hingham in 1968, Esther returned to her love of teaching and established a long relationship with the Hingham Public Schools. She began as a tutor, served at Foster School as a language tutor and then moved to South Elementary as a full time Language Development teacher for students with special needs until 1989. She was devoted to her students and a passionate advocate on their behalf. Her students have made wonderful achievements in life which she watched with great pride. She is remembered as a devoted, caring and loving wife, sister,mother,grandmother, coworker and teacher. Esther’s family is deeply grateful to all the compassionate and dedicated medical caregivers who supported her over the past three years. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Sunday 3- 6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection at 10AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
