Weymouth, MA – Ernest Williams, 88, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 14, 2025, in Weymouth, MA. He was born in Weymouth on July 30, 1936, to Ernest and Marie Williams. A proud graduate of Weymouth High School and Northeastern University, it was there that he met the love of his life, Sarah, whom he married and shared 63 wonderful years with.
Ernie lived a long and fulfilling life as a respected member of the business communities in Weymouth, Canton, and Duxbury. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Known for his sincerity and deep care for others, Ernie had the unique ability to make everyone feel heard and valued. He listened attentively to those around him, always with genuine interest and kindness. His unwavering authenticity made him a true friend to anyone fortunate enough to have known him.
We mourn the loss of our patriarch, our father, and our dear friend, but we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. Ernie leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and the reminder to always take the time to listen to others and share kindness in every encounter. His memory will continue to inspire us to carry forward the lessons he taught us.
One of Ernie’s greatest passions was painting. He created beautiful works that captured the world through his eyes, leaving behind lasting representations of joy and beauty for all to cherish. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy is reflected not only in his art but in the many lives he touched. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in every act of kindness and every painting he left behind.
Ernie is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah of Duxbury, MA; his son David Williams and his wife Sue of Golden, CO; his daughter Kelley Lennon and her husband Billy of Duxbury, MA; and his daughter Patricia Rielly and her husband Kevin of Estero, FL. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Meghan Gren and her husband James, Melissa Kissel and her husband Garrett, Thomas Lennon and his fiancee Emma, Sierra Williams and her husband Mike Penner, Benjamin Williams, Liam Rielly, and Hannah Rielly, as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Reese Gren, Leo Penner, and Jade Penner. Ernie is also survived by his sister, Ann DiGiano of Pittsboro, NC, and his brothers, Bill Williams of Sarasota, FL, and Peter Williams of Braintree, MA.
Ernie’s life will be celebrated with a wake on Wednesday, February 19, 4-7 PM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home in South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital) and a funeral mass on Thursday, February 20, at 10:30 AM in Immaculate Conception in East Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Fund at https://www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate.
