Barrasso, Ernest V. age 97 a longtime resident of Hingham and Hull, died on November 6, 2014.
Ernest was born and raised in East Boston. He graduated from East Boston High School where he was an All State Baseball player and received a baseball scholarship to Northeastern University, where he was a highly regarded 3rd baseman. After graduating from Northeastern in 1940 , he was drafted into the military, he served in the United States Army during W.W.II – European Theater Infantry 100th division. After his military career, he began working as a manager for the Sears Company and the Lincoln stores in New York, Philadelphia as well as MA. Ernest received his Masters Degree in Education from Northeastern in 1964. He held the position of Professor and Co-ordinator of Co-operative Education at Northeastern University for many years retiring back in 1984. He was a member of Who’s Who in America as well as international. He was also a member of The Society of the 100th Infantry Division Sons of Bitche for his part in the Storm and Capture of the Proud Citadel in the Maginot Line on March16, 1945 in Lorraine, France during WWII. Ernest was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed dining out. He will be remembered as a doting grandfather as well as a devoted husband who took great care of his wife and daughters. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
The beloved husband of 56 years to the late Madelyn (Cuneo) Barrasso. Devoted father of Deborah B. Kelly of Plant City, FL and Mariann E. Haslett also of FL. Cherished grandfather of Matthew E. Haslett, BPD., SGT National Guard. currently deployed in Cuba from Boston, Christopher M. Kelly, Special Agent for OPM of Kingston and James M. Kelly, WOC II Army Pilot of Watertown, NY.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, Hingham. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
Donations in memory of Mr. Barrasso may be made to Northeastern University Scholarship Fund, 118 Cushing Hall 360 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115.
