Ellen Ann (Regan) Butler“Mrs. Butler” of Weymouth, formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 24, 2025. She was 78.
Born in Medford, Ellen was the daughter of the late William A. and Catherine (Walsh) Regan. She lived in Somerville for many years before settling in Weymouth. Known affectionately as "Mrs. Butler," she dedicated 32 years of her life to the Weymouth Public Schools, retiring on October 18, 2024, as an Educational Support Professional. Throughout her career, Ellen played an integral role at Weymouth High School and left a lasting impact on countless students. Her work brought her immense joy and fulfillment, and she cherished the meaningful relationships she developed along the way.
Above all, Ellen’s family meant the world to her. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her adored grandchildren.
Ellen will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her family and friends who will forever remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Robert B. Butler; her loving children, Cynthia Butler Loud and her husband Richard of Weymouth, Daniel Butler and his wife Kristen of Somerville, and Corrie Bryda and her husband Robert of Hull. She was the cherished sister of the late William A. Regan, Jr. and Thomas A. Regan. Ellen is also survived by her dear sisters-in-law, Roberta Regan of Florida, Judi Regan of Hopkinton, Charlotte Potter of Wakefield, Lillian Weiland and her husband Howard of Holliston, Joyce Butler and her late husband Walter of Woburn, Barbara Butler and her late husband Norman of Billerica, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. She was the proud and loving Nana to Cameron, Christopher, Matthew, Victoria, and Nicholas.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, 809 Main Street (Rte 18, opposite South Shore Hospital). Cremation will follow.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made for the establishment of the Ellen A. Butler Memorial Scholarship to benefit the students of Weymouth High School.
