Hemphill, Ellen A. (Guilfoy) of Hyannis,formerly of Quincy and Neponset, July 12, 2007. Beloved wife of John E. Hemphill of Hyannis.Loving mother of Ellen “Penny” and her husband Richard Savage of Marshfield, Marilyn “Mandy” and her husband Scott Chandler of North Eastham, Paul Hemphill and his wife Marianne of Marshfield, Mark Hemphill and his wife Donna of Cumberland, R.I. Peter Hemphill and his wife Theresa of Wareham, Matthew Hemphill and his wife Claire of Essex, Vt., Mary Elizabeth “Beth” and her husband Jeff Selinger of Soldotna, Alaska and the late John W. Hemphill. Sister of Edward L. Guilfoy of Sanford, Maine, Teresa Polito of Boston, Florence Collins of Weymouth.Ellen is also survived by 12 grandchildren and the late Sarah Rose Hemphill and 2 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Tuesday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Monday 4- 8 PM. Burial in Couch Cemetery, Marshfield. Donations in memory of Hemphill may be made to Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon St., Brookline, MA 02446-9918. Mrs. Hemphill was born in Boston and grew up in the Neponset section of Dorchester. In her eariler years Ellen was a Switchboard Operator at Simons in Neponset. She also worked at the Y.M.C.A. where she was a water baby instructor and Avanced lifesaving instructor. Mrs. Hemphill’s passion was raising her eight children and spending time with her husband. She was a devote catholic and her faith was very important part of life. Ellen was active in the Koch Club in North Quincy and was a former PTA member of the Quincy Elementry School. She loved the trips she shared with her husband to Alaska, CA, and to Rome on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, Ice skating and cookouts with the family.
