Ellen Agatha (Bellew) Carlson was born in 1922 and raised in Boston. She was a 1939 graduate of Girls High School. After marrying the late Roy N. Carlson she lived in Dorchester and Quincy before settling in Hingham in 1954. The proud mother of seven children, she was involved in many of her children’s activities and a member of St. Paul’s Parish in Hingham. After her children were grown, Mrs. Carlson returned to the workforce, working as a teacher’s aide at the South Shore collaborative. Working with special needs children and young adults afforded her great pleasure and joy. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, crosswords, Bingo, and shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop, bestowing many “finds” on her family. The proud grandmother to 19 and Great-grandmother to seven, she liked nothing better that being surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her wry wit, sensibility and love. She was the “mother” to many making all who came into her life feel a part of her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ellen may be made to the Jimmy Fund 1309 Beacon St., Brookline, MA 02446-9918.
