Ella A. Mckinnon

McKinnon, Ella A. (Anderson) of Hull, died at home on April 5, 2020 at age 96. Born in Quincy to the late John and Hulda Anderson, Ella graduated from North Quincy High School. She loved dancing and taught her beloved husband, Warren “Hop” McKinnon, the Swedish Polka while they were courting. Ella had a curious, fearless spirit and a deep love of learning. She lived in Tanzania for two years with her husband (who taught at a teacher training college) and their two teenage children, during which time she chronicled their experiences, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. Ella enjoyed her rose and flower gardens, won several Gold Medals swimming in the YMCA Senior Olympics, and loved to entertain family and friends by cooking her delicious clam chowder, stuffed shrimp, stuffed clams, zucchini quiche and apple pie squares. Committed throughout her long life to service and caring for others, Ella was a caregiver to the elderly, earned a Registered Nursing Assistant degree, worked at the Hull Library, and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and cherished pets.

Beloved wife of 71 years to the late Warren P. McKinnon of Hull. Loving mother of Susan E. Duke and the late Brian J. McKinnon. Proud grandmother of Marisa Roth and her fiancé Eric Peterson, Allison Duke and her husband Joseph Sarage, Brennan Duke, Rhiannon Duke and her fiancé Campbell Lozuaway-McComsey. Loving great grandmother of Noah, Eli, and Seamus Peterson. Dear sister of Mildred Grant and Arthur Anderson and predeceased by 8 siblings; Holger Anderson, Gladys Eckblom, Charles Anderson, Harold Anderson, Howard Anderson, Majdis Flynn, Walter Anderson and Evelyn Tribou. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00am in St. Ann Church, 208 Samoset Ave., Hull, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ella’s name to Alzheimer’s Assn, MA Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452.
