Elizabeth J. Sweeney

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Sweeney, 88, of Hingham, died peacefully on Friday, October 14th. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard F. Sweeney, to whom she was happily married for 53 years. Betty was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dess Smith and the sister of the late Doris Woods. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy “Tim” Sweeney and his wife Paula of Wayne PA, and Joseph “Joe” Sweeney and his wife Carol of Red Bank NJ, and four grandchildren: John, Frank, Kathleen, and Joe. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Betty was born in Youngstown, Ohio and grew up in Quincy, MA. She graduated from Boston School of Dental Medicine and was a dental assistant for many years. Her family wishes to offer thanks for the loving care she received from Wingate Skilled Nursing facility in Kingston and from the nursing and hospice staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital of Plymouth. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, October 18th from 4 to 8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home on 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 19th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Hingham at 11:30 AM. Interment in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
