Swanton, Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Sullivan) of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2011 surrounded by her family. Whether it was raising her family, opening her home to countless foster kids, or caring for children in her daycare, Betty thrived by helping others. She was actively involved in the Quincy Public School System and in her church where she was a long time member of the choir. Since its inception, Betty was a member of the Manet Community Health Center Board of Directors in Quincy where she served in multiple capacities, including president. Betty received the Joseph M. Smith Consumer Award in 2009 from the MA League of Community Health Centers for her dedication and support of the delivery of primary health care services. Betty was the wife of the late Frederick J. Swanton; loving mother of Maureen Donahue of Plymouth, John Swanton of Kansas City, MO, Joanne Brown of Quincy, Susan Quigg of Quincy, Marjorie Long of Weymouth, Lorraine Gerraughty of Surprise, AZ, Brian Swanton of Phoenix, AZ, Christopher Swanton of Minneapolis, MN, Kathleen Mann of Quincy, and David Swanton of Phoenix, AZ; and the sister of Eileen Burke of Dorchester, Kathleen Green of Hanover, Cornelius Sullivan, Jr. of FL & MI, Lorraine Grier of Quincy and the late James Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Marjorie Powers, and Mary Sullivan. Betty was also the devoted “Nana” to 24 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on both Thursday 4-8 PM AND Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:05 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty may be made to Adoptive Families Together, MSPCC, Attn: Development Dept., 99 Summer St., 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
