Eleanor Zappulla

Eleanor (Iava) Zappulla of Weymouth, age 94 passed away peacefully on Thursday June 2, 2022 at Windrose Assisted Living. She was the loving wife of the late John A. Zappulla.

Mrs. Zappulla was born November 16, 1927 in Waterbury Ct., Daughter of the late Frank A and Clara (Perise) Iava. She was a graduate of the Duggan Grammar School and  then Wilby High School. Eleanor worked for New England Telephone and later Verizon until her retirement. After retirement she traveled with her good friend Lyn Kelly. She was a member of The Pioneers, and a member of the Women’s Guild at St Pius X Parish. Eleanor was a devout Catholic and never missed a mass. Family was everything to Eleanor.

In addition to her late husband John, Eleanor is survived by her son Robert J. Zappulla and his late wife Pamela of Natick, daughters; Linda Fanning of Jacksonville AL, and former son-in-law Sonny Fanning of Belcamp MD., Joan Grassie and  her husband Rick of Elkton FL, and Janice Contreras and her husband Sergio of Brockton, She also leaves behind grandchildren Altonio Royster and his wife Ayala, Melissa  Fanning, Marlo Bryant, Gerald Fanning and his wife Antonia Rose, Ricky  Grassie and his wife Jenna, Jonathan Contreras, and Selena Contreras. Also 4 great-grandchildren, John Anthony Kritlow, Amara Royster, A.J. Royster and the late Kaden A, Fanning. Eleanor was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Frank, and Nelson Iava. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Eleanor will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 5-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital), Weymouth. Burial to follow in Ancient Cemetery, Yarmouthport. Donations in memory of Eleanor may be made to Alzheimers Assn., MA Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
