Eleanor R. Mahoney

Eleanor R. (Feeney) Mahoney of Hingham, formerly of Onset and Canton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and true friend of many, entered into eternal life on April 2, 2017.

Eleanor was born in 1930 in South Boston to Sarah (O’Donnell) and Bernard Feeney.

She is once again united in heaven with the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Mahoney. Ellie was a loving, devoted mother to Judy Barbato (Chuck) of Austin, TX and Holland, MA, Kathy Hawes (Brad) of Sharon, Richard Mahoney (Lillina) of Medway, Robert Mahoney (Denise) of NH, Mary Ellen Duggan of Northboro, and Stephen Mahoney (Barbara) of Harwich. Adored nana of Christine D’Ambrosio, Erica Moreno (Daniel), Caitlin Hawes (Marc Berman), Lianne Greenspan (Eric), Bradford Hawes, Shannon Mahoney, Patrick, Liam, Seamus, and Aidan Mahoney, Michaela, Rhian, and Riley Duggan, Elizabeth, Samantha, and RJ Mahoney, and Chuck Barbato (Melissa), Vicki Wilhite (Scott), and Pete Barbato (Melissa). Greatest Great-Nana to Jacob, Natalie, Charlotte, Ellie, Keaton, Kaila, Ryan, Taylor, and PJ. Cherished sister of Joseph Feeney and his wife Eileen of Squantum, and the late Edward, Paul, Leo, William and Robert Feeney, Ruth Sullivan, Marguerite Horrigan, and Dorothy Mulcahy. Also survived by the “out-laws” Narnie Feeney, Jack Horrigan, Rita Mahoney, and Barbara Barron. Mother-in-law to the late Kathleen Devlin Mahoney and Mark Duggan. Also survived by many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Faith and family were the foundation of Ellie’s life.  She lived a life of humility, service, and joy; always thinking of others before herself.  Her heart overflowed with love; greeting everyone she met with a huge smile, a big hug, a twinkle in her eye, and often a plate of some delicious homemade treat.  The loss of Ellie/Mom/Nana has left a hole in our lives and hearts that nothing will be able to fill, but we believe she had a “fast pass” to heaven and together she and Dick/Dad/Grampy are relishing their roles as Guardian Angels to all of us. Ellie will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

The family welcomes all relatives and friends to the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 AM in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth.
