Rattray, Eleanor J. (Quinn) of Hingham, formerly of Quincy, February 12, 2005. Wife of the late Allan B. Rattray. Sister of John E. Quinn of Braintree and the late William Quinn, MD. Aunt of Donald Quinn of Newton. Dear Friend of Lois Ritchie of Hingham. Eleanor is also survived by several cousins and cherised friends. Eleanor was born in West Roxbury and graduated from Quincy High School class of 1932 she then went on and graduated from Burdette College in Boston. In 1942 she enlisted in the United States Navy and was a photographer mate and stayed with the Navy for 12 years and was honorably discharged in 1954. She left the Navy to care for her ailing Mother in law. She took a job with Poloroid and worked there for 35 years and retired in 1989. Eleanor also worked for the Pierce Sanberg Studio in Quincy for 8 years. During her Navy career, Eleanor photographed the last German Submarine crew to surrender, after the photo was taken, the Captain of the Crew took a cyanide capsule and died. Eleanor was an avid sports person. She loved horseback riding, skiing, swimming, and she learned how to fly at the beginning of World War II. Eleanor was also in 2 photo shoots with the famous Ansel Adams. As Eleanor aged she was slowly losing her eye sight, and even with poor eye sight she continued to photograph beautiful shots. Eleanor loved animals. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Thursday at 8:30 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visitation will be prior to the Mass on Thursday morning. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Eleanor may be made to South Shore Humane Society, P.O. Box 850187, Braintree, MA 02185.
