Anastos, Eleanor (Pompeo) of Hingham, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 surrounded by her family on Monday, January 31, 2011. Born on September 29, 1917 in Quincy, she later resided in Milton, Ma. She graduated from Milton Academy at the age of 16 and was a member of the Wellesley College class of 1938. In 1942 she married Corporal Francis T. Donahue who was killed in battle in France in 1945. Eleanor joined the family business, Pompeo Motors of Quincy, often travelling to auto shows in New York and Detroit at a time when few women were in attendance, let alone representing and making decisions for a business. Eleanor married Achilles T. Anastos of Hull in 1951 and moved to Hingham. The couple enjoyed a happy 59 year marriage until he passed away on Nov. 7, 2010. Active in Hingham community activities, the South Shore Wellesley Club, the Friends of Worlds End and the Doric Dames organization; she also loved to visit Heritage Plantation with her grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted son, David T. Donahue and his wife Kathleen of Scituate and was the treasured grandmother of Mark T. Donahue and his wife Margaret of South Portland, ME; Suzanne Donahue of Charlestown, MA and Alec W. Donahue of Easthampton, MA. Also, she is survived by three cherished great grandchildren, Eleanor, Alice and Miles Donahue of S. Portland, ME. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Marion Pompeo and sister of the late Lucille McNamara, Alexander Pompeo Jr., and Ralph Pompeo. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Hingham Center on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11 o’clock.
