Elden J. Morton

Morton, Elden J. of Quincy & Dennisport, January 15, 2007. Son of the late August H. Morton and Anna (Nilsson) Morton. Brother-in-law of Mary M. Morton of Fogelsville, PA. Uncle of Pamela Morton Kerschner of Morristown, NJ. Cousin of Donald Nelson of Duxbury, Philip Nelson of CA an Betty Ann Freeman of Cotuit. Also survived by 1 great niece and 1 great nephew. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Graveside Service in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy Thursday at 10 AM. Elden graduated from Quincy High School in 1935 and received a degree in chemical engineering from Northeastern University in 1940. He went on to work as a chemical engineer in the Boston area and was involved in the development of Teflon. He moved to CA and worked in the same industry before entering the motel business in MA. Elden was the owner and operator of the Santucket Motel in Dennisport for close to 25 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Morton loved to drive and thought nothing of hopping in his car for lobster bisque in Maine, an afternoon lunch on Cape Cod or driving all the way to Florida every winter. He knew the backroads and throughways for most of New England. He was proud of his Swedish heritage and because of that always drove a 5-speed, stick shift Volvo. He was a very athletic man enjoying both tennis and skiing. He also enjoyed photography. Elden was independent but also loved his family, especially the children. He was drawn to their youth and love of life, something he shared with them. He was an active memeber of the Assembly of God Ministries. Donations in memory of Mr. Morton may be made to Glad Tidings Church, 158 Washington Street, Quincy, MA 02169.
