Elaine F. Player, a cherished matriarch and beacon of kindness, has peacefully passed away on September 2, 2024. She was born in Weymouth, MA and attended Hingham High School.
Elaine's journey began as a compassionate caregiver when she graduated from Faulkner School of Nursing in 1959. Her innate ability to nurture found a professional outlet as an Operating Room Nurse at Boston City Hospital, followed by years of service as a School Nurse in Weymouth Public Schools.
Beyond her professional life, Elaine was the loving wife of the late George H. Player and a devoted mother to her sons, George M. Player and his wife Marilyn R. of Weymouth, and Kevin M. Player and his wife Christine M. of Hanover. She was the adored Nana to her grandchildren, George A. Player and his wife Colleen of Milton and Caitlin McCabe and her husband Alex of Braintree, and the cherished Great Nana to Vienna McCabe. Elaine is also survived by her brother John “Billy” Galvin of Hull. She was predeceased by her parents Yolanda E. and John B. Galvin and Francis J. Harhen, and her sister Francine Palumbo. Elaine's family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she invested every moment she could in their happiness and success.
Elaine's love for her family was paralleled only by her passion for her son’s sporting events, a hobby that brought her and her loved ones together in spirited cheer and camaraderie. Her grandchildren, in particular, were the light of her life, and they looked forward with great anticipation to their visits to "Camp Nana," a place of joy, laughter, and cherished memories. A woman of many interests, Elaine was known for her impressive culinary skills, especially when it came to Italian cuisine. Her lasagna and meatballs were the highlights of family gatherings, and her Irish stuffing was a testament to her versatility in the kitchen. Elaine also had a passion for cars, with her Impala SS holding a special place in her heart.
