Elaine McCann

Elaine McCann of North Weymouth, formerly of Washington State, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 99. She was born on March 20, 1925 in Zillah, Washington, to the late Emanuel and Beatrice Katsaros.

Elaine was the beloved wife of Walter H. McCann, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and cherished moments.

She was the mother of Betty Tomich, and her late son, David Tomich. She was a proud grandmother to Jennifer Underdahl, Dena Mills and Daniel Mills and the late Wendy Vance; and great grandmother to Anthony Vance. She was the sister of the late Michael Katsaros and his wife Kristina, and the late Georgia Taylor and her late husband Wayne.

She leaves behind her devoted, loving niece, Claudia May and husband Daniel who cherished every moment with her.

In her early years, Elaine studied Social Work at Washington State University. Her professional life included years of dedicated service as a bookkeeper.

She truly missed her family from out West and especially enjoyed visits from Wendy, Jennifer, Dena and Danny as well as ones from her nephew Anthony Katsaros and wife Corvidea, and nieces Susan Billings and Ester Katsaros and her husband John Fogerty.

Elaine and her husband Wally adored each other. They truly loved each other. They would often be found just holding hands and gazing into each other’s eyes. Their unbreakable love was an example to all that surrounded them. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Florida as both snowbirds and lovebirds. She was lucky to be able to spend over 44 wonderful years together with the love of her life in their peaceful home on the water of Wessagussett Beach.

She loved the weekly visits and apple pies from Janice and Herbie Clifford and their grandchildren; as well as excursions to Florida with Mary Jane Restuccia, her late husband Bill, daughter Julie Happeny and Barbara Schwartz. She enjoyed the excitement and love of Wally’s late brother Thomas’ children; the late Margaret, Tommy, Johnny, David, Susie, Kathy, Kenny, Kevin, Maureen, Danny, Jimmy, and Joani who will be officiating her services.

Elaine cherished all the holidays, monthly birthday dinners and special times with her niece Claudia May and husband Daniel, Maureen McCarthy and fiancé Alex and Kathleen Coelho and husband Bob, great nieces; Laura May Sullivan and husband Jeremy, Christine May-Stafford and husband Andy, Danielle Mayheart-Kitching and husband Danny, Julie May Sullivan and husband Luke and their families.

She loved watching her family grow through her grand nieces and nephews; Kellie May Fergusson, Hailey Coelho, Daniel Walter Lincoln, Eskil Kitching, Ella Kitching, Sarah Coelho, Finley Kitching, Connor Sullivan, Tilda Kitching, Victoria Stafford, Kyle Sullivan, Dante Mayheart-Kitching, Violet Elaine Sullivan and Athena Mayheart-Kitching.

An avid sports fan, Elaine's enthusiasm was not limited to her beloved New England teams, as she also followed the Seattle Seahawks. She was especially proud of attending her nephew Anthony’s basketball games at Brown University.

Elaine was a modern and smart woman, who was well versed on current events, engaging in tackling her daily crossword puzzles and known for her love of all spicy foods, which she approached with the same zest as she did life itself. Later in life, Elaine made a host of friends at Queen Anne, where her friendly spirit and loving nature made her a beloved member of the community.
