Elaine M. (Plunkett) Murphy

Mrs. Elaine M. (Plunkett) Murphy, of Weymouth, passed away in her home on February 10, 2023.  She was 82.

Elaine was a proud school teacher for the Weymouth Public Schools, with a passion for early childhood education. She loved to inspire young minds, and is fondly remembered by former students everywhere. She taught at the following schools throughout the Weymouth school system: Hunt, Fulton, Murphy, Pingree and Johnson. In her spare time, Elaine enjoyed reading, music, and just adored her family, particularly her grandchildren, with whom she made many fond memories. She will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her. 

Loving mother of James R. Murphy and his wife, Diane, of Newton, Karen M. Murphy of Abington, Kellie A. Derfler-Murphy and her wife, Michele, of Plainville, Michael S. Murphy of Weymouth, Mark E. Murphy of Weymouth, and Susan Schubel  and her husband, Otis, of Albuquerque. 

Sister of Marie  Hurley of Braintree, Janice D’Avignon and her husband, Barry, of Marshfield, and the late Richard Plunkett, Jack Plunkett, Thomas Plunkett,  Elizabeth Buckley, and Joan Simpson. Grandmother of Seanan, Cian, Arbriel, Declan, Aedan, Teaghan, and Liam. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, February 16th, from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). 

A service will be held in the McDonald Keohane funeral home at Friday at 11:15 AM prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 12 PM. 

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. 

Memorial donations may be made to Norwell VNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061. 

Although there is no formal post-funeral gathering planned, Elaine’s children would like to invite all to a Celebration of Elaine’s Life, to be held at a future date.
