Elaine (McDonough) Daly, 73, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23rd, after a brief yet tough battle with cancer.
Born on September 28th, 1950, in Boston, MA, to Julia "Sis" McDonough and Henry McDonough, Elaine grew up in a home full of love and endless stories alongside her two brothers, Craig and Paul in South Boston. She shared countless happy memories with several loving cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Elaine spoke fondly of her cherished days at the Cardinal Cushing School for Girls, where she forged lifelong friendships. Elaine’s thirst for knowledge continued into adulthood, where she found joy in taking classes at Quincy College.
In May 1978 Elaine married her loving and devoted husband Peter and started a small family with their dog, Bumma, in South Boston. In 1984 they moved to Weymouth and had twin daughters, Meredith & Lindsay. Elaine loved their young years, watching dance recitals, hosting playdates, and taking them out for walks in the snow with their red wagon. She absolutely adored her “granddogs” Winnie and Daisy.
Elaine may have been 73 in years, but she always felt 33 at heart—forever full of ideas, plans, and a zest that left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She was an avid fan of Cape Cod, Disney World (loving Main Street USA) and Nantucket. She also loved traveling to Bermuda and Ireland, and enjoyed the fine arts, making sure to take in Broadway shows and Boston Museums whenever she could - especially to see the Monet exhibits. Elaine enjoyed chatting with her hair dresser at her weekly beauty appointment and looked forward to phone calls and get-togethers with her favorite people as often as she could. Those who knew her know she had many health challenges, and her quieter moments were spent looking at family pictures, cuddling with her pups, and laughing at reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond and Seinfeld with Peter.
Elaine is survived by her husband, daughters, son-in-law Jason Rykiel, brothers Paul and Craig, and several cousins, nieces & nephews. She was truly one-of-a kind, and unforgettable to anyone she crossed paths with during her life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Great Dog Rescue New England (GDRNE), the organization that brought her beloved 4-legged family members into her life, or to the Epilepsy Foundation (donate here). And, for those looking to honor her memory in the most Elaine way possible, save up for a visit to her favorite restaurant, Strawberry Fair in Norwell, MA, and raise a toast in her honor.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
