Eileen T. Ruane, of West Yarmouth and Fort Pierce, FL, formerly of Wollaston, passed away on November 17, 2020. Eileen worked for First National Bank of Boston for 40 years where she was the first female branch manager, the first woman Vice President of the Bank and the first woman to serve as President of the New England Institute of Banking. She was breaking glass ceilings way back in the 1970’s.
Eileen was a founding member of the Sons of Erin in West Yarmouth, a member of the Fort Pierce Lodge of Elks, the Hyannis Yacht Club, and recently co-led a Parkinson’s Support Group. An avid reader, she also enjoyed shopping, knitting, and domestic and international travel. Having studied with Julia Child, fine dining and at-home cooking and entertaining brought her the most joy, especially when she hosted family and friends.
Eileen’s love for her family, friends, church and community was clearly evident through her gracious hospitality, generous philanthropic acts, never-ending support, her quiet guidance and wisdom, her solid work ethic and in her fun-loving spirit.
Eileen will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved her especially her loving nieces and nephews. Daughter of the late John and Catherine (Kate) Ruane, Sister of the late Margaret “ Margie” Sproul and John “Jack” Ruane. Beloved aunt of Joanne Ruane Seltzer and her husband, Harold, of Canton, Janice Sheehan and her husband, Jeff, of Quincy, Kathleen Clay and her husband, Earl, of W. Yarmouth, Diane Mousette and her husband, Ken of Avon, Patricia Roth and her husband, Rich, of Taunton, Eileen Champagne and her husband, Paul, of Taunton, Mary Coffey and her husband, Ed of Mashpee, and the late Harry Sproul. Also survived by loving supportive extended family and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Quincy.
