Eileen Agnes Sweeney, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025 at 89 years. Although Eileen spent most of her adult life in the US she was born and raised in Kenmare, Co. Kerry. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (O’Sullivan) Sweeney of Gortrooskagh, Kenmare, Co. Kerry.
A devoted and compassionate soul, Eileen dedicated her life to caring for others. She completed her nursing qualifications in both Dublin and Boston and had a distinguished 30-year career at Brigham and Women's Hospital. There, she led with empathy, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her patients and colleagues.
Eileen retired in 1994, embracing a well-earned retirement filled with faith, family, and independence—values that defined her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Joan, Eugene, Patrick, Mary, and John. She leaves behind her dear siblings Father Peter, Sheila, Kathleen, Naomi and Margaret.
Family was at the heart of Eileen’s life, and she was blessed with the love and company of many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews who visited her. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her independent spirit, and the warmth she brought to those around her.
Eileen’s presence will be profoundly missed, but the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service to celebrate Eileen will be held at St. John Neumann parish, Gaithersburg, Maryland, hosted by her beloved brother Father Peter Sweeney at a later date.
May she rest in eternal peace.
