Eileen C. Piazza

Eileen C. Piazza, age 91, of Milton, formerly of Hingham, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024.

Born in Syracuse, NY in 1932 to Eileen and James Carey, her family moved to Newtonville, MA in 1940. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1954 as a biochemistry major and worked briefly at Mass General Hospital as a lab technician. In 1958, she obtained her Master’s of Library Science degree at Simmons College. She had a successful career working at several libraries including the MIT Dewey Library, the National Institutes of Health Library, and the Milton Public Library (25 years) where she was the reference librarian and later became the Assistant Director.

In 1958, Eileen married Eugene Piazza and together they raised their family in Hingham, MA. Eileen had a passion for travel, exploring destinations such as Peru, Italy, Ireland, England, and China. She moved to Fuller Village in 2011 where she met many new friends and enjoyed time at the Café, Saturday night movies, and various events and outings. A devoted grandmother, she started an annual tradition of bringing her grandchildren to the Big Apple Circus, a memory they all treasured. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, needlepoint, Sudoku, watching Jeopardy, and spending time with friends and family. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she often started planning and shopping in July.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Piazza and his wife Jean of Wellesley, MA; and her daughter Janet Piazza and her husband Paul Hennessey of Brewster, MA. She is also survived by her brother, James Carey and his wife Carol of Somerset, MA. She was predeceased by her daughter Katherine Jones (husband Perry) of North Dighton, MA, her former husband Eugene Piazza of Quincy, and her sister Sheila Carey of Newton. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is planned for Friday, September 27 at 11:00 at Fuller Village, 1372 Brush Hill Road, Milton, MA.
