Eileen F. Donovan, died April 2, 2015 with her family by her side. Although she wouldn’t admit it, she was 84. Mrs. Donovan was most often found surrounded by her large family, celebrating any holiday, every birthday, and many beach days at her home by Nantasket Beach.
Mrs. Donovan was born on April 12, 1930. She grew up in Mission Hill and graduated from Mission High School in 1948. Mrs. Donovan raised her 8 children in Hull, the town she called home for the last 46 years of her life. She never learned to drive, which meant she relied on countless friends and family to chauffeur her wherever she needed to go. Almost any trip in the car required a stop for lunch or dinner, no matter how quick of an errand. Going out for a glass of wine, a delicious meal and dessert with family and friends brought her great joy. Mrs. Donovan spent much of her time volunteering with her friends at the Ann M. Scully Senior Center, where she helped serve lunch for over a decade. She was also a devout Catholic who attended Mass at St. Mary’s Parish all her years in Hull.
Mrs. Donovan is survived by her children Kathy Donovan, Jeanne Donovan and her partner Douglas Morgan, of Hull; Joan Donovan, of Hull; Nancy Quinn and her husband Mike, of Hull; Eileen Donovan, of Hull; Dan Donovan and his wife Tess of Pasadena, CA; and Gerard Donovan and his wife Kim of Hull. She was loved beyond words by her grandchildren Eryn Njoroge and her husband Dan, of Brockton; Andrea DuPont, and her husband Noah, of Seattle; Lindsay Donovan, of New York; Caitlin Quinn and her fiancé Joe Dunn; Cassidy Bilodeau and her husband Matt; and Carly and Amelia Donovan, all of Hull. Mrs. Donovan was the doting great-grandmother to Sophia and Anna Njoroge, and the newest additions to her family, Owen Bilodeau and Dean DuPont.
She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Perry, her husband Gerard Donovan, her longtime companion Tom Mealey, and her son Paul Donovan.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eileen may be made to The Anne M. Scully Senior Center, at 197A Samoset Ave., Hull MA 02045.
