Edwin T. “Hop” Cross, Sr.

Cross, Edwin T., Sr.  “Hop”,  78, Retired Weymouth Firefighter.

Beloved husband, father, brother and “Papa”; peacefully passed away after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. An early entrepreneur, he spent his teen years selling ice cream from his horse-drawn cart throughout Weymouth. Ed served in the Mass. National Guard. Ed was a truck driver for the family firm, hauled gasoline for Cities Service and then became a Weymouth firefighter, serving the town with distinction for over 25 years. He was happiest with his beloved family, whether at home or traveling the world with siblings, children or grandchildren. He imbued his children with his legendary work ethic and pride in accomplishment of a job well done.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marion E. (Cazeault) Cross of Hingham, son Michael and his wife Rebecca (Powell) Cross of Springfield, MA, daughter Sally Pelrine and husband Glenn of Weymouth,  son Edwin Jr. and his wife Maureen (Kreitman) Cross of Alpharetta, GA, son Gerald and his wife Melanie (Luinetti) Cross of Hampton, VA, son Andrew Cross of Hingham, MA, and son Daniel and wife Mary (Henehan) Cross of Braintree, MA and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Jean Corcoran of Norwood, MA, brothers William F. Cross, Jr., and John Cross and sister Rita Bryant, all of Weymouth; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. And Florence, and sister Rosemary Laugelle. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 9 AM. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth will be private. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women’s Cancer Center, in clinical affiliation with South Shore Hospital, 55 Fogg Road, Weymouth, MA 02190.
