Edwin "Butch" Simms

Edwin J. Simms, known affectionately as "Butch" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024, in Braintree, MA. Born on January 18, 1932, in Boston, MA, he grew up in South Boston.

Butch proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran during the Korean War period. Following his military service, he dedicated many years as a hardworking union laborer for Local 133. Butch's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his devotion to his family. Over the years, he also worked for Poley-Abrams & Schnabel. An active member of his community, Butch could often be found at the Chippewa Club. His interests were as varied as they were passionate; he was an avid fisherman, finding peace and joy in the serenity of nature. Butch's love for antiques reflected his appreciation for history and craftsmanship, a hobby that often led him to explore flea markets in search of hidden treasures. Butch's competitive spirit shone through in his love for playing cards and dominos. Bowling was another pastime that Butch enjoyed, whether he was rolling strikes or spares, he was always surrounded by friends and family.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa H. Simms (Bowes), with whom he shared countless cherished memories. Butch's legacy continues through his loving children, Michael E. Simms and his wife Mary of Braintree, and Steven Simms and his wife Susan of Milton. Loving Papa to his grandchildren, Victoria, Alexander, Courtney, Marissa, Nicholas, Benjamin, Rebecca, Noah, and his great-grandchildren, Jayden and Evelyn, who will miss him dearly.

Butch was the last surviving sibling of his family, preceded in death by his siblings Alphonse Simms, Frances Simms and Henry “Shorty” Simms. He also joins in rest his parents, the late Joseph Szymielewicz and the late Helen (Harasimowicz).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday 8:30-9:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM.
