Harris, Edward S., lifetime resident of Hingham, passed away in his sleep at home on Sunday morning, March 28, 2010. He was 82 years old. Beloved husband of Barbara A. (Polito) Harris. Loving father of Susan J. Mills of Hingham. Father-in-law to Lieutenant James D. Mills of the Massachusetts State Police, Revere Barracks. Twin brother of the late Hubert J. Harris and brother of the late Mary Connolly and Jane Davis. Beloved grandfather (and best friend) to Stephen J. Mills and his wife Amy of Weymouth and Ashley J. Mills of Hingham. He was lovingly called “Papa” and will be sorely missed by all of us. Ed was a graduate of the Hingham School System and later attended trade school. Entering the Navy in 1944, he was stricken with rheumatic fever while in training and was medically discharged. Edward worked for 25 years at Tropical Radio and Telegraph Company. A letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, he retired in 1990 after 30 years. He is a member of the N.A.L.C. He enjoyed walking in the neighborhood, working in his yard and being driven around by his two loving grandchildren. Edward was a staunch supporter of Law Enforcement and the Fire Department. He would often be seen walking in his MA State Police ball cap and jacket given to him by his loving son-in-law. Ed was an avid Patriot and Red Sox fan. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4 – 8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
