Doyle, Edward L. “Ted” of Hingham October 28, 2007. Husband of 47 years to the late Catherine Hogan Doyle. Loving father of Katherine Guenther & husband Hector of Pelham Manor, NY, Elizabeth Saltzman & husband David of NYC, Martha Schwartz & husband George of Hingham, Ted Doyle of Newton, and Ann Kane & husband George of Lexington. Brother of the late William, John, and Mary Doyle. Also survived by 13 grandchildren. A retired insurance executive, Mr. Doyle was until recently an active lay Permanent Deacon of the Archdiocese of Boston, a ministry that he pursued for more than 30 years. He was a member of the first class of Permanent Roman Catholic Deacons, ordained by the Archdiocese of Boston in 1976. Mr. Doyle served first at St. Paul Parish in Hingham, and later at St. Mary’s Parish in Hull, where he was a fixture in the local religious community for more than two decades. In 1979, Mr. Doyle was chosen by the Archdiocese to assist Pope John Paul II at his historic mass held on the Boston Common, which drew nearly a half-million worshippers. Mr. Doyle was formerly a professional actor and director for the stage, films, and in television, and later a television executive. He spent his early career at WNDU-TV, the National Broadcasting Company affiliate at Notre Dame University, where he also taught communications to undergraduates. He later was assistant program manager at WBZ-TV in Boston, and held executive positions at WHO-TV in Des Moines, IA, and WKGB-TV (now WLVI) in Boston. His love of musical theater made him well-known in the local community as a volunteer director of amateur productions at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham and elsewhere. Mr. Doyle served in the U.S. Naval Air Force during World War II, received an undergraduate degree from Villanova University, and earned a Masters Degree at Catholic University in Washington DC. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Burial in Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Deacon Doyle may be made to the St. Paul Parish Building Fund, 147 North St., Hingham, MA 02043.
