Edward L. Sparda

Edward L. Sparda, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at his daughter Robin’s home surrounded by his loving family on November 18, 2023. He was 81 years old.

Born in 1942 in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Balfiore and Isis Eleanor (Tonnesen) Sparda. He was the grandson of the late Tommaso Sparda and the late Concetta Mattarochia. Ed is predeceased by his former wife and partner P. Beverly Sparda, and his brother, Paul Sparda. Ed’s best buddy, his dog Cooper passed away this past spring.

Ed retired in 2003, after 36 years of service with the Massachusetts State Police. He retired as a Lieutenant and Station Commander of the Middleboro State Police Barracks. He was commonly known as Huggy Bear from his MSP colleagues, the nickname originated from his police CB radio handle name and stuck forever. He was highly respected by his fellow troopers and he worked also at the Norwell and Logan Airport barracks during his career. Prior to becoming a State Trooper, he was an officer on the Weymouth Police Department. After retirement, he served on the Hingham Institute of Savings bank’s Board of Directors.

Ed loved his family and his animals more than anything. If you were family or a friend and you needed anything, he would be there for you in a heartbeat. He loved the Patriots and was a 50+ year season ticket holder. He loved playing golf for many years and if you were playing with him but not doing well he would jokingly say “Throw your clubs away.” He was forever the jokester, making people smile and laugh often.

Ed was an amazing father and grandfather. He was proud of his children Chris and Robin. He was especially loved by his grandchildren. His grandson, Shane was the apple of his eye because the two of them were like two peas in a pod. Lots of laughs and memories will be cherished forever.

Loving father of Chris Sparda and his partner Lorena Viscomi of Weymouth and Robin Sparda and her partner, Richard Garsh of Hanson. Ed is survived by his brother Robert Sparda and his wife, Kathleen Sparda of Saco, Maine.

Loving Papa of Justin, Amber, Shane, Katelynn, Stephanie, Francesco, Danielle, and Giuliana.
