Edward K. Phillips

Phillips, Edward K. “Eddie”, of South Boston, formerly of Quincy, passed away on September 20, 2015 surrounded by his family.

Edward attended South Boston High School and Newbury Junior College. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was proud of his status of being his Drill Instructor’s “House Mouse”.  He was an aide to Senate President William M. Bulger and served at the MA State Senate for over 20 years and retired in 2002. He owned and operated the Seaport Bar and Grill and was one of the founding members of the Semper Fidelis Society.  He was very active in veteran’s issues. Edward worked closely with the local Marine Corps recruiters and established a Marine of the Month program. In 2003 he was presented an Iraq flag from returning Iraq war veterans.  This flag was on display at his restaurant and returning Iraq war veterans from all services signed their names.  The final signature was General James T. Conway, then Commandant of the United State Marine Corps. The flag has over two thousand signatures and is now placed in the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA. He was passionate about helping veterans, politics, and especially his family. He enjoyed walking his dog Gunny at Castle Island and was well known in South Boston, as well as the State House and the restaurant business. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Former husband of Alice (Grant) Phillips of Quincy. Loving father of Christopher and his wife Cheryl-Ann, William and his wife Maryellen, David and his wife Jean, all of Weymouth, and Edward “Teddy” Phillips of Quincy. Cherished brother of Donald Phillips, Richard Phillips, Kenneth Phillips, Susan Fine and the late Claire Powers.  Edward leaves his grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael and Daniel Phillips and Noelle Sunthiemer and many loving nieces and nephews.
