Edward J. Gillis

Edward J. Gillis, 69, of Abington, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 after a long, brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Hingham, Ed graduated from Hingham High School in 1965.  After graduation, he proudly and honorably served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the Navy aboard the USS Forrestal. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Boston State College in 1974. Ed spent the early part of his career at Eastern Airlines, and was a long time employee of Mass Electric and National Grid, where he worked as a lineman. He was an avid golfer and former hockey player, but the thing he loved most was spending time with his family.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carole (Gale) Gillis of Abington; his son Bryan and wife Kerri of Marshfield and their two children, Devan and Dylan; his son Jason Gillis and wife Tracy of Whitman and their two children, Abaigeal and Cailin; his son Adam and wife Kathy of Halifax and their two children, Ava and Nolan; and his daughter Nicole (Gillis) MacDonald and husband Dan of Braintree and their daughter, Sophia. He also leaves behind a sister, Joanne (Gillis) Donovan of Berwyn, PA, brother Allan Gillis of Duxbury, and the late Marilyn Gillis of Hingham.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, June 9th from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 10th prior to the Funeral Mass in Saint Bridget’s Church, Abington at 10:30 AM. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland.
