Edward J. Gilbody

Edward J. Gilbody, 81, passed away peacefully on May 13, in Hingham.  

He was born September 14, 1936, in Quincy, MA, son of the late Francis and Esther Gilbody. Ed is the youngest of twelve siblings. 

Edward graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and married Elizabeth Suttill on July 27, 1958. Ed served in the ROTC, and after graduating college started his first job managing at WT Grants Department Store. Ed, always looking forward founded his own business, Gragil Associates, an accounts receivable management company, recently celebrating its’ 50^th year in business. Ed was a very successful entrepreneur employing many people on the South Shore.   Ed was also an exceptional athlete and avid golfer.  Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed by all.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth of 59 years, his son David and wife Michele of Freeport, ME and his son William and wife Pamela of Norwell, Loving grandfather of Nicole, Hannah, Stephanie and Michael, Adoring “Grand- Papa” of Rose, Silas and Oliver.  He is also survived by his sister, Rosanne LaVacca, of Ocala, FL and many nieces and nephews.   

He is preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Haavisto, Margaret Rinella, Alice Williams, Lucille Smith, Ruth Larkin, Esther Cox, Joan Fitzgerald and his brothers, Robert, John and William Gilbody.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
