Born in Dorchester, he was a son of the late William H. Donovan and Dorothy L. (Reavey). Edward was raised in the Back Bay of Boston where he was a familiar and well-known presence at the Honey Donut Shop and other neighborhood establishments. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully and honorably during the Korean War where he was wounded in combat. Following his service and honorable discharge, Mr. Donovan returned to the Back Bay. He spent 20 years with the New England Regional Sacred Heart Radio Program as their Traffic Manager. Following Sacred Heart’s relocation to St. Louis, he began a 34 year career with the United States Postal Service in the General Mail Facility at South Station. Edward was a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Back Bay Council 331 where he was involved in years of charitable giving and social work. Edward was a Quincy resident for 50 years and was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy for that entire period. Following his retirement at age 75, Edward enjoyed a quiet and peaceful life in Quincy. Faith and family were most important to him. He especially adored his grandchildren and attended as many of their school and sporting events as he could.
