Edward G. Ennis of Sarasota, FL and North Falmouth, MA passed away peacefully on February 23, 2021. Loving and adoring husband of 55 years to the late Marie T. Ennis, the love of his life. Loved and cherished father to Douglas Edward Ennis (Monmouth, ME) and Lisa Ennis White (Sarasota, FL) and the best “Pa Pa” in the world to Sean, Ryon, Eryn, Liam and Sophia and admired and respected father-in-law to George “Jody” White IV.
Ed grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the youngest of 4 children: Joseph, Avis, James, and Ed; parents were James and Anna Beckett Ennis. Ed was a multi-sport athlete at Mt. Pleasant High School and went on to receive a full scholarship for basketball at Stonehill College, Easton, MA. He continued with his graduate education at University of Illinois, majoring in Finance and Accounting.
He was a 40-year career executive at General Electric in Lynn, MA and at GE Aviation in Cincinnati, OH before retiring in 1995. He and Marie were active in politics in Weymouth, where he was a Town Assessor (1979-1985) and Marie was on the Library Board of Trustees.
Ed loved his family, travel, golf, and the Boston Red Sox. He taught his children to think for themselves, be entrepreneurs, and that the best investment is in your family. His pride and joy was his summer home, that he built with Marie in N. Falmouth, MA in 1976. Cape Cod was his happy place.
