Voelkel, Edward F. of South Weymouth, died September 10, 2013.
Beloved husband of Helen (Markiewicz) Voelkel of South Weymouth. Loving father of Mark Voelkel and his wife Terry of Marshfield, Ursula Ceurvels and her husband Richard of South Weymouth, Christine Kenney and her husband Richard of Hanover, Ellen Crosier and her husband Bruce of Shrewsbury, Marie Voelkel of South Weymouth and Jean Zaleski and her husband John of South Weymouth. Brother of Florence Griffith of Squantum, Marion Jordan of Florida, Frieda O’Brien of Squantum and the late William Voelkel, Arlene Cooper, Arthur and Diane Voelkel. Edward is also lovingly survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Edward was born in Boston and lived in Quincy for many years before moving to South Weymouth 22 years ago. He was a graduate of South Boston High School and attended Northeastern University. Ed worked at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston where he was a Research Associate of Toxicology for 38 years before retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Endocrine Society and a member of the faculty at Harvard School of Public Health. He enjoyed spending time with family, trips to the Cape and going to the beach. Most of all Ed loved his family who were the most important aspect of his life. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth.
