Edward F. Manning, Jr.

Edward F. “Ed” Manning, Jr.  of Logan Park, Braintree, passed away on February 6, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He was 70. 

Ed was born in Boston’s South End on March 27, 1949, the son of the late Edward F. Manning and Irene E. (Doran) Manning.  Ed lived in Quincy, Westmont, NJ and Williamsville, NY during his youth. Ed graduated from Williamsville South High school in Williamsville, NY in 1968. 

Despite being born with cerebral palsey and with mobility challenges, Ed was fully independent and an inspiration to all. His amazingly positive attitude and sense of humor were always apparent.

He had several jobs following graduation before joining the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers (Buffalo District) in 1987. He was a Senior Mail Clerk for the corps and retired in 2007. He loved working for the corps and with his coworkers. He was a dedicated employee taking several buses from North Tonanwanda and despite harsh Buffalo winters was usually one of the first at work. During his time with the corps Ed received the Commander’s Coin several times for exceptional service.  He was awarded the commanders award for civilian service upon his retirement in 2007. He also received the Japan Engineer District Commander’s Coin during one of his two trips to Japan to visit his brother.

Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Madonna Council North Tonanwanda New York.  He achieved the coveted status of 4^th Degree Knight and was a member of the Trinity Assembly. Ed loved the Knights, fully supporting all their activities while eventually achieving the coveted position of bingo caller.

Ed moved to Braintree (Logan Park) in 2007 where he had many friends.  He received exceptional support from the members of the pace (elder service) team in Mattapan through the years.   

He is survived by his brother Colonel (retired) Joseph P. Manning of Carlisle, Pennsylvania.  Further survived by sister in law Marianne Manning, nephew Patrick Manning and spouse Lindsay of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; niece Claire Manning and spouse Tim Delmonico along with son Leon of Washington D.C.; Michael Mulvey and spouse Meg Welch-Mulvey along with son Mathias Mulvey of Miami Florida; Patrick Mulvey . He was preceded in death by brother Michael and sisters Eileen and Rosemary.

The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston for their exceptional kind and loving care.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY on Sunday, February 9 from  3-7pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.

Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
