Monahan, Edward F. “Eddie” of Hingham, formerly of Dorchester, died unexpectedly on March 2, 2014.
Eddie served in the United States Air Force stationed at Otis Air Force Base. His career after the Air Force led him around the rails for 38 years, while working as a conductor for the New Haven Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and Amtrak, where he retired from in 2003. After taking some time, Eddie realized he wasn’t fond of retirement, although he loved spending time at Starbucks in Hingham with all of his friends and discussing (or arguing) politics, the economy or any other current news story. In 2011 he was elected the Sewer Commissioner for the Town of Hingham. He went back to work part time in 2013 at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury and although employed only a short time he cherished the people he worked with there.
Beloved husband of 45 years to Joan P. (Shaw) Monahan of Hingham. Devoted father and best friend of Christine Monahan of Hingham. Constant companion of his golden retriever Bentley. Loving brother of Helen Nadile, Dorothy Noris, John Monahan, Michelle (Burley) Crowley and Mark Burley. Predeceased by Joseph H. and Ada V. Monahan, Mary V. Monahan Burley and 3 siblings. Dear brother-in-law of Marie Mirci, Francis Shaw and his wife Annette, Robert Shaw and Gertrude Tinney. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
