Edmund L. Marks, Sr. “Red” of Weymouth, formerly of Dorchester, died April 30, 2013.
Edmund was a proud Army veteran who served during WWII as a member of the 126 AAA Artillery (an elite mobile anti aircraft unit). He became a member of the 1st Corps of Cadets in 1939. His military service began in TX . When Pearl Harbor was bombed he was serving in CA. In 1944, as the U.S. entered the war, he was transferred to Dover, England and later to Antwerp where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of many campaign medals including the French Legion of Honor Medal. In 1945, after returning home from the war, he met his wife Mary at an ice cream shop in Neponset. In 1954 they moved their growing family to Weymouth. Edmund worked as an underground construction supervisor for Boston Edison for many years and was a proud member of Local #369. He was also a member of the Quincy and Weymouth Lodge of Elks and the American Legion Post in South Weymouth.
Husband of the late Mary T (Byrne) Marks. Loving father of Kevin Marks and wife Barbara of Milton, Edmund Marks, Jr. of Tampa, FL, Maureen Cronin and husband Frank of Rockland, Helene Smits and husband John of Weymouth, Steven Marks of St. Petersburg, FL, Danielle McGrath and husband Chris of Cary, NC, and Michelle Marks of West Atlantic Beach, FL. Brother of of the late Robert, Arthur and Florence. Companion of many years of Isabel Workman. Edmund is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street) Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:45 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 11:30 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:30 PM. Donations in memory of Edmund may be made to Fisher House (VA Hospital Affiliate), PO Box 230, S. Walpole, MA 02071 FisherHouseBoston.org.
