Edith C. (Deane) Garrity of Weymouth, passed away on December 9, 2022. She was 98 years old.
She was the wife of the late Eugene W. Garrity.
Beloved mother of Michael Garrity of Sagamore Beach, Kevin Garrity and his wife Lynda of Plymouth, Patricia Short and her husband Christopher of Quincy, and the late Steven Garrity and Kathleen Capasso. Cherished grandmother of Maureen Peters and her husband Robert of San Diego, Lisa Gentile and Derek McGrath of Plymouth, Leanne Murphy and her husband Joshua of New Bedford, and Steven Capasso and Kaileigh Langill of Tennessee. Adored great grandmother of Willem, Rylan, Travis, Livia, and Owen. Also will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Born in Waterbury CT. to the late William and Grace Deane. She grew up in Quincy, MA and graduated from North Quincy High School. She met Eugene before he was deployed in World War II and they were married in 1946.
Edith was fully devoted to family, faith, and neighborhood, throughout her life. As a child, she lived briefly in Halifax, NS before her family settled in Quincy, MA. Just after starting her family, she lived in San Diego when husband Eugene was called back to service overseas in the Korean War. After raising five children in Weymouth, she relished her chance to travel and reside in the warmer climates over the winter months. During the summer, they were out on the floor for line dancing events – especially at the seaside pavilion at Nantasket Beach.
An avid lifelong reader and classic “Golden Age” movie enthusiast, Edith recently completed the novel Gone with the Wind last summer. She also followed current events with great interest. Edith was never shy to express her considered opinion in local and national affairs.
An utmost thanks to the Celtic Angels who assisted Edith at home in recent years, especially this year when her health declined. Also the family is quite grateful to the Beacon Hospice team that compassionately assisted in recent weeks.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Saturday 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jerome Church, N. Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Lunch and refreshments to be served afterwards at the family home.
