Dr. Robert H. Lofgren

Dr. Robert H. Lofgren of Hingham, formerly of Quincy and Needham, died August 19, 2017, at the age of 86.

With an education from Harvard College and Boston University School of Medicine, Bob spent time in both Texas and New Hampshire as a flight surgeon while enlisted with the U.S. Air Force.  He was an Otolaryngologist affiliated with Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General and Newton Wellesley Hospitals.  His career spanned over 50 years and included serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School, Chairman of Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Medical Advisory Committee and Chairman of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary’s Bylaw Committee.  Bob cherished his profession as a doctor and was dedicated to the many patients he cared for throughout his career.  With an interest in bagpipes, he enjoyed his association with the Sutherland Pipe Band of Natick, MA and serving on the Board of Directors and the Chief Steward Committee for the New Hampshire Highland Games for almost 30 years.  He moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham in 2004 and was one of the first 10 residents.  While at Linden Ponds, he was elected to the Resident Advisory Committee and served on many resident committees.  In retirement he was able to fulfill his passion for U.S. and worldwide travel.

He was the beloved husband of Helene (Hawrilenko) Lofgren and the late Nancy (Kerr) Lofgren.  Loving father of Susan Lofgren-De Paolo and husband Alan of Porter, ME; Jean Lofgren Doherty and husband Shawn of Bedford, and Peter H. Lofgren and wife Paula of Chatham.  Cherished grandfather of Jessica, Scott, Robert, Daniel, Adrian and Jon.  Great grandfather of Alainna, Zoë, Eric, Andrew, Jillian and Ava.  Bob was a loving and caring man who will be missed by all.

Burial will be private.  A memorial service will be held at Linden Ponds Performing Arts Center (Derby Clubhouse), 203 Linden Ponds Way, Hingham, MA on September 16th at 11 AM.
