Dr. Richard A. Spriano

Dr. Richard A. Spriano, 78, of Hingham, passed away with family by his side at his home on January 3, 2018.

He was born on May 30, 1939, in Boston to the late Albert and Vera Spriano and grew up in Roslindale.

Beloved husband of 39 years to Nancy; loving father to Kristin Madden and her husband Kevin of Cohasset; Richard A. Spriano, Jr. and his wife Katy of Boston; Lisa Dillon and her husband Kevin of Hingham; and Kevin McDonough of Roslindale. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Joe, John, Ally, Aiden, Micky, Emma, and Dezi; his sister Gloria O’Connor; and several nieces and nephews.

The double Eagle graduated from Boston College High School, Boston College, and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.  Richard served in the Air Force in Europe during the Berlin Crisis, which sparked his profound interest in World War II history. He also taught at Tufts during the 1970s.  After his time in Europe, he practiced dentistry in Hingham for 46 years with a loyal and dedicated staff that were like an extended family to him. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, and the South Shore District Dental Society.  Richard was an Eagle Scout, avid reader, history buff, and enjoyed skiing, boating, flying, and photography. He looked forward to his Wednesday morning Chanticleers men’s group and Saturday morning breakfast group, the camaraderie of which he enjoyed after his retirement.

Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend the visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 pm in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St., Hingham. A celebration of life service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 am on Friday prior to the funeral Mass at Resurrection Church, Hingham, at 10 am.
