Dr. Paul C. Canney

Dr. Paul C. Canney of Hingham, passed away March 28, 2017.  

Paul grew up in Quincy and later moved to Hingham when he married M. Joan Canney in 1961. He graduated Boston College in 1954 and later attended Tufts Dental School where he graduated in 1958. Recently retired, he worked as a dentist in his own practice in East Milton Square for many years. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Paul’s Church in Hingham. Paul loved to vacation, especially in Harwichport on Cape Cod and Sanibel Island in Florida. He loved to boat and fish. He was a devoted family man. Paul will be remembered for his generous, outgoing and friendly nature. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Caring husband to the the late M. Joan (Gately) Canney. Dear father to Paula Flanagan and her husband James of Hingham. Cherished brother to Thomas Canney and his wife Janet of Hanson and the late John “Jake” Canney,Virginia Welch, James Canney, and Eleanor Canney. Close brother-in-law to David Gately of Hingham. Caring “Papa” to Margaret Mary “Meg” Flanagan of Hingham. Special friend to Elizabeth “Lisa” Ecks who was like a daughter to him.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and godchilren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, March 30th, from 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM Friday, March 31st, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
