Dr. James French Morrissey

Dr. James French Morrissey, MD, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. James was born on August 10, 1932, in Yonkers, NY. James graduated from The Ethical Cultural school of New York, Dartmouth College in 1956 and New York Medical College in 1960. He married Barbara Anne (Gettens) on May 5, 1956. Dr. Morrissey was the principal partner of Yonkers Orthopedic Association in Yonkers, NY. Throughout his career he practiced at Yonkers Professional hospital and all area hospitals in Yonkers, NY. 

James served as a Major in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1967 to 1969, he was the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, 24th Evac Hospital, Republic of Vietnam.  James and Barbara lived in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY for over 35 years. Summers in Southampton included boating, golfing, and fishing with friends and family.  James was well respected and admired by all who met him.

In 2015, James and Barbara moved to Hingham, MA, to be closer to their family. 

James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara A. Morrissey; their children, Deborah A. Cunningham and her husband, Lawrence; John F. Morrissey and his wife, Kathy; and Sharon A. Morrissey Grant. Grandfather of Andrew, James, Colin, Mackenzie, Christopher, Jack, and Shea. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, November 10 from 3-5 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham, MA. On Monday, November 11, at 10 AM, a Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, Hingham, MA. At 12 PM on Monday, a Celebration of Life reception will be held at Blackrock Country Club, Hingham, MA. On Tuesday, a private burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW.org).
