Douglas H. Oakley

Douglas “Doug”  H. Oakley, died April 23, 2013 after a courageous and inspiring battle with ALS.

A long-time resident of Weymouth, Doug graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1980.  He earned a culinary arts degree from Johnson and Wales University and a Masters degree in Leadership from Eastern Nazarene College.

Doug loved to travel and meet new people.  He visited family and friends regularly all over the United States and Canada.  A motorcycle enthusiast, Doug’s most memorable trip was traveling 8152 miles around the four corners of the United States on his motorcycle while raising money and awareness for ALS.  Doug was also a life-long hockey fan and enjoyed watching the Bruins and playing hockey from “youth” to “old man”.

Most recently Doug served as a board member for an organization that was near and dear to his heart, Compassionate Care ALS, which supports the physical and emotional needs of patients and caregivers touched by ALS. Doug has been an inspiration to his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews, who watched him continue to have a zeal for living in spite of being diagnosed with a debilitating illness.  He will be greatly missed by all.

He leaves behind his wife Patty (Weldon) Oakley of West Bridgewater and Falmouth, parents Donald and Bonalyn Oakley of Rockland, siblings Terry Oakley of Gaithersburg MD, Trent Oakley of Abington, and Sandra Darmetko of Whitman, mother-in-law Betty Weldon of Brockton, many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday from 2:00-7:00 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10:00 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.  Donations in Doug’s memory can be made to CCALS, PO Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574 or at CCALS.org.
