McCormack, Dorothy M. (Walsh) of Quincy, passed away on May 31, 2016, surrounded by the family she cherished. The beloved wife of the late Francis P. “Frank” McCormack, Sr. Devoted mother of her seven children, Tina McCormack of Braintree, Patrick McCormack of Hull, Judy Tryon and her husband Tommy of Quincy, Noreen Devlin and her husband Mike of Braintree, Tim McCormack of Quincy and his former wife Lucy Gibbs of Pembroke, Fran McCormack and his wife Tina of Quincy and Beth Leonard and her husband Mark of Hingham. Sister of Joseph P. Walsh of Braintree and the late Sr. Ann Martina, James & Thomas Walsh and Mary Kennedy.
Dorothy was the devoted and loving Grammy to her thirteen grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Kevin, Rudy, Robert, Caroline, Anna, Patrick, Adam, Martin, Marykate, Aidan, and Tess. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Cafferty) Walsh. She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews. Dot had very special attentive and compassionate caregivers. Lynne, Grace, and Lorraine made a difference in the quality of her life with their patience, empathy and love. Dorothy grew up Roxbury and was very proud of her Irish heritage. During the war, Dot worked at Raytheon for the military defense. Upon graduation from high school, Dot worked as an executive secretary at Walworth’s, one of her favorite workplace memories, as she met many life long friends. One of whom introduced her during a lunch hour, to her future husband, Frank McCormack. Frank and “Dixie’s” journey began on that fateful day.
The early days in Dorchester, continued to North Quincy with a home a block up from the beach. Dot truly made her house a home with her extensive talents; sewing, painting, wallpapering, preparing meals all while balancing the needs of seven children. In addition, Dot was known for welcoming her children’s friends around the table, as there was always room for more. Both she and Frank were known among family and friends for their wonderful hospitality to all.
Dot leaves a legacy of love, loyalty and devotion to family and friends.
One of her favorite expressions to her children was “Charity begins at home!”
She will be sadly missed by her family but, they are so grateful for all the blessings she brought into their lives.
Sharing time with family and friends was always so important to her. Please, set some special time aside to truly enjoy your loved ones in her memory.
