Carpenter, Dorothy L. (Hawkins) of Hingham, passed away April 11, 2012. She was 101 years old. Beloved wife of the late Edward D. Carpenter. Loving mother of Jean Finn of Windham NH, and William E. Carpenter and his wife Erin of Duxbury. Sister of Marion Wakeham and her husband Fredrick, Eleanor Tenteris and her husband Peter and Thomas Hawkins. Cherished grandmother of Jessica Carpenter, Alison Bartolucci, Erin Preston, Meaghan Finn, Margaret Carpenter, Christopher Finn, Christine Carpenter and Alyssa Carpenter. She was the great-grandmother of 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born in Medford, MA, on May 10, 1910. She was a graduate of Medford High School and Katherine Gibbs School. She worked for the John Hancock Insurance Co. and later worked at the Weymouth High School Library. Dorothy was a Hingham resident for the past 61 years. Living in her Bradley Woods home until the age of 97, she then resided at the Harbor House in Hingham, where she rarely missed any of the daily social activities. She loved life, people, and especially cherished her family. She had a fabulous sense of humor and was never seen without a smile and a kind word. Dorothy Faithfully attended St. John the Evangelist, Episcopal Church in Hingham. She belonged to the Hingham Senior Citizens, Hingham Historical Society, Hingham Mothers’ Club, Hingham Women’s Club and the Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will he held in the funeral home at 10:15 am on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Service in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Hingham at 11AM. Burial in Hingham Cemetery, Hingham.
