Dorothy Jeanie (McLean) White, of Quincy, and formerly of Kenova, West Virginia died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 27, 2020. She was 89.

Born in Lawrence on August 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late David and Georgina (Rogers) McLean and attended local schools. Dorothy graduated from the Lawrence High School with the Class of 1949.

A homemaker, Dorothy raised her family with love and devotion. Dorothy was a veracious reader and enjoyed mystery novels. She also enjoyed the occasional mystery movie and playing Trivial Pursuit. Dorothy was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan and also loved Notre Dame. The most important part of her life was her family and she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy was loving, strong willed and had a great sense of humor. Her life lessons and example are part of her legacy that continues through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all the lives she touched.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of James C. White. The two married on March 28, 1953 in Washington D.C. Together they shared 67 years of loving marriage. She was the devoted mother of Sheri Sanfilippo and her late husband Salvatore of Everett, John White and his partner Michelle Bernsten of Allston, Richard White of West Virginia, Gary White of West Virginia, Karen Miller of Everett, Susan Clifford and her husband John of Quincy, Julie Berry and her husband Ebenof Maine, the late James White and the late Kimberly Meere and her surviving husband Patrick of Virginia. She was the loving grandmother of eleven and the loving great grandmother of ten. Dorothy was the dear sister of David McLean and his late wife Mary of Wrentham and the late Eleanor Zielinski and her surviving husband Joe of New Hampshire. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Dorothy’s funeral services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Dorothy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
