Havens, Dorothy Jeanne (Robinson)of Hingham, died on Saturday, November 28, 2009. Beloved wife of the late Leonard M. Havens. She is survived by her son Lincoln Havens and his wife Lora and their children Chelsea, Matthew and Ryan Havens of Wake Forest, NC and she is also survived by her devoted daughter Holly Jean Blake and her husband Dennis and their children Holden, Veronica and Maria Blake of Hingham. Dorothy was born in Boston, she attended Boston Girl’s Latin School class of 1948. She studied and received her undergraduate degree with high honors from Northeastern University in 1957 and obtained her Masters degree in 1960 from Wayne University in MI. Dorothy was an English Professor at Northeastern University and later became an editor for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts Newsletter.She served as a junior ambassador to Yugoslavia in the 1950’s, reporting to local newspapers about the lives of the families with whom she lived. She was the first female on Northeastern’s bowling team. Dorothy was a fabulous cook an avid reader and gardener. She was a longtime member of the Old Ship Church in Hingham. She enjoyed traveling with her best friend Joan Ramsay of Hingham. Before her retirement, Dorothy began to learn her seventh language Spanish, while in her 60’s. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service in Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, on Tuesday at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11am. Burial will be private.
